Watching Your Wallet


Like live poker, online poker game is often played for real money.  So, although it can be easy to forget that, you need to try to keep it in mind.  It can be tempting to play multiple tables or play more reckless poker than you would in a live game.  
By playing proper poker and not depositing more than you can afford, though, you should be able to maximize your earning potential.

Taking Your Turn


In a live poker game, for example, everyone takes their turn when it's time to do so.  In online games, however, you can often select what you want to do ahead of time.  Then, when it's your turn to act, the computer will make your preselected bet or fold.  That can be a real time saver, but it also has a down side.

The down side is that people will gain information, based on your speedy play.  For example, if you check the “check/fold box, it means that you will automatically check to see a card, unless someone bets.  
 
Any bet will cause you to fold.  A fast check can therefore indicate to your opponent that your hand is weak.  So, you should try to avoid using the automatic action selectors.
